Air Filter and The Importance of Replacing Them

Blog, How To, Pro Tips

Have you ever considered how often you must change your home’s furnace filter? Changing your air filter is a good idea if you have not done so recently.

Our goal at Blessed Electric is to provide you with a system that runs as efficiently and cleanly as possible. A regular air filter replacement (along with seasonal maintenance) is an essential part of this.

To ensure your home’s comfort and the efficiency of your HVAC system, you need to replace your furnace filter regularly.

When a filter is clogged, a system is inefficient.

To maximize the efficiency of your furnace, you should replace your furnace filter regularly. Dust, dirt, and grime clog your air filter, which forces your furnace and air conditioner to work twice as hard. As a result, you will have to pay higher energy bills, increase your carbon footprint, and drain your wallet. Changing the air filter is quick, easy, and cost-effective.

Your health is at risk when you have dirty air filters.

Dust, dander, and even mold circulate through your home when your air filter is dirty. You and your family will breathe in these things, which can aggravate asthma, allergies, and other respiratory concerns. You can breathe easier if your air filter is clean since it traps these contaminants better.

Air filters that are clogged reduce the life of your system.

In addition, it can cause your system to overheat and burn out.

Higher energy bills are not the only consequence of a system that has to work harder to heat and cool your home. The blower and the entire HVAC system may fail prematurely due to the strain placed on them. A clogged air filter is the most common cause of completely failed systems. Keeping your air filter clean is too important to ignore.

If your air filters are dirty, you’ll have to pay more for maintenance.

Although a clogged air filter does not always result in system failure, it does lead to expensive maintenance. Routine air filter replacement will prevent blowers from malfunctioning or ductwork from needing regular cleaning due to dust circulating through your home. Rather than spending money on your heating and cooling system, consider replacing your air filters regularly.

You can keep your home cleaner by keeping your air filter clean.

Keeping your air filter clean will reduce the dust in your home because it won’t circulate through the HVAC system. Instead of dusting, do things you enjoy rather than cleaning your home.

What is the recommended frequency of changing your Air Filter?

If you consider all the benefits, you may want to change the filter more frequently, but how frequently should you do it? It depends on your filter type and the demand placed on it, but it is a good rule of thumb to change it every other month.

Your Air Filter: how to install it

Return air vent or air handler/furnace

Determine where your air return vent is located if your home has one.

  • The unit should be turned off. This prevents dust and grit from being blown into your system when it is turned off.
  • Your vent should be opened, and the used filter should be removed.
  • Ensure the Air Flow Arrows point toward the HVAC unit.
  • The new filter should be installed, and the vent should be closed.
  • Turn on the unit, and you’re good to go!

Usually, the air filter is found inside or near the furnace or air handler in your home.

  • Make sure the unit is turned off first.
  • Identify the area near the air supply where the filter is located and remove the panel.
  • Removed used filter, then.
  • Install the new filter and check the Air Flow Arrows. Ensure that the Air Flow Arrows point toward the HVAC unit.
  • Time to replace your panel.
  • Finally, please turn it on.

Change the air filter every 60-90 days to ensure clean air.
